Your Eye Examination
All of our eye examinations are carried out by one of our fully qualified Optometrists. During the eye examination they will carry out a combination of tests to both check the level of vision that you have and also check the health of the eye. During the examination they will ask if you have suffered from any recent problems and ask you questions on your previous history as well as that of your family.
Using different instruments the Optometrist will examine the interior of the eye to assess the condition of it, and check that the muscles of the eye are evenly balanced. If you are aged 40 or over a test for Glaucoma will automatically be carried out.
Taking into account your job and any hobbies or sports your level of vision will then be assessed to determine if it could be improved with either spectacles or contact lenses. You will then be given a prescription and handed over to a dispensing optician who will be able to discuss how your needs can be best matched.
Now equipped with the latest technology we are able to capture an image of your retina and examine it in fine detail. This enables us to identify any ocular abnormality at the earliest opportunity and so take appropriate measures to ensure that any problems are resolved as soon as possible. We can then store the image for comparison in the future or even e-mail it to another specialist if appropriate.
We can also provide :
- Diabetic & Glaucoma screening
- Visual Field examinations including Esterman (DVLA)
- Intuitive Colorimetry and Coloured overlay testing
For those people who are housebound and so unable to access our practices we carry out a home visit service. We will visit you at your home, carry out a sight test and if required you can choose new spectacles from a selection provided. Once these are manufactured we will then deliver these back to you and ensure that they are correctly fitting. For those aged 60 or over the visit and sight test is paid for by the National Health Service.
